Racing
Glasgow Ski and Snowboard Centre offers varied opportunities for ski racers, both experienced and aspiring. Each year, the club holds a number of open races and freeride events for both skiers and snowboarders, as well as its own dry-slope and snow championships each year.

Junior Ski Race Training & Snowboard Performance Training
Once children have reached the required technical standard and are recommended by a current instructor, they may apply for a trial for the Club‘s Race Training programme. The programme is split into two blocks: a 12-week pre-season training block between September and Christmas, and a 10-week in-season block between January and Easter. Snow training is also available in the Scottish resorts, weather permitting. This training is only available to Club Members.

Adult Ski Race Training
Race training is available to adults who want to go beyond the advance level lessons available at the Club. Sessions are held on Thursday nights in 5-week blocks from 9.30 until 11 pm, running from September to March. An adult version of snowboard performance training is also advertised at the Club when available.

Dry-Slope Competitions
The programme kicks off in September with a FreeRide competition: ‘big @ bella’. This is closely followed on the first Sunday in October by the Bella Bairns Race for the youngest group of racers. Next is the largest open ski race of the season, The South of Clyde Championships, in early October. November brings the Blues League, a two-night event with teams of six skiers, and the Swix Medal Challenge. December brings the Club‘s own Artificial Slope Championships. After Christmas the race scene switches to snow (details available from the BritSki website). Our own Snow Championships are usually held in March at Nevis Range. In April comes Spring-Board, a freeride competition, and in August the Club stages its Summer Medal competition. In addition to the open events, the Club holds three race nights which only Club members can take part in.

› Scott McWhirter

Scott McWhirterScott McWhirter

A product of Glasgow Ski Racing, Scott started skiing at Glasgow in 1997 progressing through group lessons to take part in both ski race training and snowboard performance training. During the winter months Scott trained on snow with Glasgow Ski Racing spending weekends in Scotland and a week each year at the Tignes camp. To get additional snow time Scott also attended race camps with FAST and the Scottish Juniors.
Based on his race results Scott was selected to become a full time member of the Scottish Ski Team in 2009 and is now entering his third season with them. Scott has travelled extensively with the Team in both the Northern and Southern hemispheres over the past three years.
Scott has accepted a place at Glasgow University starting in 2012 at which point he will give up his full time status with the Scottish Team.
